Prairie Animal Assistance

Prairie Animal Assistance delivers specialist training to people so they can better support animals with special needs.

Through this work, some animals have come into our care who require extensive and ongoing support. We could not maintain the lives of these special animals without the generosity of our sponsors.

Care, Compassion & Community

At Prairie Animal Assistance, every program, rescue, and story is rooted in care, compassion, and community. From providing specialized training to celebrating the journeys of animals who have overcome incredible challenges, our work creates a place where animals can heal and people can learn.

Who We Are

Prairie Animal Assistance is a Regina-based charity dedicated to caring for special-needs rescue animals who might otherwise have nowhere to go. Since 1997, we have provided a permanent, loving home while focusing on rehabilitation, positive training, and education.

Guided by compassion, we create a safe haven where animals can heal, people can learn, and together we build a stronger community of care.

Trainings & Programs

From the basics for youth to advanced courses in behaviour modification for animals with special needs, our training programs support both pets and their people.

Using positive, force-free training methods, we help animals build confidence, improve communication, and develop lasting bonds with their caregivers.

About Prairie Animal Assistance

A Place for Healing

Located just outside Regina, Saskatchewan, Prairie Animal Assistance provides a safe and supportive home for animals with complex medical, physical, or behavioural needs.

Many of the animals in our care have experienced severe trauma — abuse, abandonment, accidents, or illness. Each resident receives an individualized program designed to meet their physical, emotional, and psychological needs.

Through patience, structured routines, positive reinforcement training, and compassionate care, we help animals recover and rediscover joy.

Training & Education

Education for Animals and People

Training and education are at the heart of Prairie Animal Assistance.

Our programs teach humane, positive training methods that help animals overcome behavioral challenges while strengthening the relationship between animals and their caregivers.

Through youth programs, training classes, and educational demonstrations, we work to improve the lives of animals far beyond our sanctuary.

Featured Success Story

Meet the animals whose lives have been transformed through patience, training, and compassion.

Saber

When an orange feral kitten named Saber appeared under founder Laurisa Osheski’s deck, no one believed the wild cat could become a companion animal. Using positive clicker training and patience, Saber transformed into an affectionate, highly trained cat who learned to walk on a leash, perform tricks, and interact confidently with people.

His journey became one of Prairie Animal Assistance’s earliest success stories.
